Thursday, February 5 2026, 5:30 - 8pm 221 LeConte Hall Academic Event The History Film Series presents Ryan Cooglers Sinners (2025). Sinners won two Golden Globes for Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement and Best Original Score for Ludwig Göransson. A blend of horror, history, music and culture, the film is set 1932 in the Mississippi Delta. Starring Michael B. Jordan in dual roles as criminal twin brothers who return to their hometown in the Jim Crow South, where they are confronted by a supernatural evil. Co-stars include Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O'Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Miller, and Delroy Lindo. To ensure authenticity for the setting in 1930's Mississippi Delta, Coogler hired an extensive team of cultural, historical, and technical experts, including identical twin consultants, spiritual experts, Mississippi Delta historians, Choctaw cultural advisors, dialect coaches, and music experts. An introduction will be provided by UGA's Dr. James Cobb, who served as an economic and historical consultant to the film. This is a Black History Month special presentation.
