Service learning opportunity … moonlight hike to spot gators … tour of the UGA Marine Institute … boat trip off the Georgia coast … group T shirts … FRC returned to Sapelo Island in October 2018!
Being able to wake up and smell fresh air, ride bicycles, spot wildlife, watch the sunrise, and roast marshmallows on the beach was an amazing experience. 20 FRC students took the drive down to the UGA Marine Institute on Sapelo Island for a fun and service oriented trip. We helped out the local community in Hog Hammock by building a fence to protect valuable crops from the wildlife on the island. We also had the opportunity to go trawling on a fishing boat with Dr. Damon Gannon, who taught us all about the eye-catching fish and sea animals. We were lucky enough to spot dolphins as well! This trip allowed everyone to see and appreciate the beauty in simplicity and nature. Sapelo was a trip that everyone will remember for the rest of their lives, and luckily we are going again next fall!
