Matthew is a sophomore majoring in Linguistics and minoring in Philosophy who joined the FRC this year to connect more deeply with the Russian-speaking community in Rutherford Hall and engage with a like-minded interdisciplinary community. He has especially enjoyed the FRC’s social, academic, and service events, which have helped him learn more about opportunities at UGA while building new friendships. His favorite FRC memory so far was attending Dr. Bateman’s talk on the intersection of healthcare and linguistics in Quechua-speaking communities, and he hopes to see more linguistics-focused talks in the future. Matthew is also a new member of the SeMantis research lab and a former participant in the Russian Flagship program, through which he studied Russian in Honolulu, Hawaii for six weeks in the summer of 2025.
