FRC announces two Federal Work-Study positions!

FRC welcomes applications from our residents for two Federal Work-Study positions in the academic year 2020-21. Both are part-time positions paid at a rate of $8.25/ hour, with a maximum of 20 hours/ week. See below for a description of the duties for our Gospel Pilgrim Liaison and Communication and Mass Media Intern!

Am I eligible for Federal Work-Study?

Can I combine FWS with other employment at UGA?

Note that students are limited to 20 hours/ week total from all forms of paid employment at UGA (for example driving a bus or working in a dining hall).

How do I apply?

Students can apply for either or both positions via Handshake, the job application system of the UGA Career Center. See the FWS link above for details.

Do these positions fulfill UGA's Experiential Learning requirement?

Yes, for some majors. Check with your Academic Advisor to confirm -- and these students will be eligible to apply for Experiential Learning scholarships: https://el.uga.edu/

How flexible is the work schedule for these positions?

Students will be able to schedule their FWS hours around their academic commitments.

What are the job responsibilities?

Both jobs will provide the opportunity for students to develop their skills in writing, website design, social media, and community engagement.

 

Franklin Residential College: Gospel Pilgrim Liaison

The Gospel Pilgrim Cemetery was founded in 1882 by the Gospel Pilgrim Society, a fraternal organization, to furnish respectable funerals and burial places for Athens-area African Americans.




Duties:

-- Working with the FRC Director, Academic Adviser in Residence, and executive board in coordinating FRC’s service projects at the Gospel Pilgrim Cemetery in Athens;

-- Communicating with the Friends of Gospel Pilgrim and other community partners in developing and implementing plans for cleanup, landscape management, maintenance and signage;

-- Conducting research on the history of Gospel Pilgrim and the persons buried there; and

-- Developing a section of the FRC website dedicated to Gospel Pilgrim and FRC’s participation in the restoration of the cemetery.



Skills: Communication with students and community partners; website design; photography; restoration of the historic cemetery.



Location: Rutherford Hall, Gospel Pilgrim Cemetery, meetings with community partners

Schedule: Variable depending on student schedule

Hours: 10-12/ week on average, not to exceed 20 in any week

Franklin Residential College: Communication and Mass Media Intern

Duties:

-- Taking photographs and recording video of FRC academic, service, and social events;

-- Editing photos and videos, and posting them to the FRC website and social media accounts for recruitment and promotional purposes;

-- Editing, labeling and archiving photos of FRC activities for posterity;

-- Developing an FRC alumni database, and creating promotional materials for FRC’s fundraising campaign.

Skills: photography; video editing; social media account management; website design; communicating with alumni and students.

Location: Rutherford Hall, meetings with community partners

Schedule: Variable depending on student schedule

Hours: 10-12/ week on average, not to exceed 20 in any week

Support FRC

Provide undergraduate scholarship support for first generation college students and/or students in financial need, as determined by OSFA, who wish to be a part of the FRC.
