I graduated from UGA in May 2022 with a degree in History, and I joined many student organizations, but the FRC was a staple for me. The FRC played an instrumental role in my college journey. I joined the FRC my freshman year in August 2018 and I was a member until my junior year May 2021. The service, social and academic emphasis of the FRC was exactly what I needed to settle into such a big school like UGA. I left the FRC to be a C.L.A.S.S. Advocate for UGA Housing and I was pleased that my resident hall placement in the Myers community included Mary Lyndon, Soule Hall, and more importantly Rutherford Hall so I was still close to my FRC family my senior year. While serving as a Director’s Assistant for the FRC during the 2020-2021 school year, I learned so many skills that I have continued to use in subsequent leadership roles. I currently serve as a College Adviser for the Georgia College Advising corps and my school site is Clarke Central High School here in Athens, GA. In my current role, I help seniors at CCHS with their after high school plans by planning college fairs, resume workshops, completing scholarships and conducting 1-on-1 meetings amongst many other tasks. The FRC played a big part in helping me transition into my College Advising role and for that I am eternally grateful for the support. As I continue my journey into grad school and hopefully law school, it is important for me to reminisce about my time in the organization that helped me grow so much. There are so many awesome memories that come to mind including trips to Sapelo Island and Tallulah Gorge State Park, service days at sweet olive farm and Gospel Pilgrim Cemetery but my favorite would have to be cookie nights right there in Rutherford. Just the social aspect, having something to look forward to every week, seeing some of my favorite people and playing games like UNO made cookie nights a special memory for me. Lastly, I must add that I never lost a game of UNO with my buddy Cooper at cookie nights. My FRC experience was a winning one all around!
