FRC students at Lemonade Lift-off The FRC, established in 2000, continues to be a partnership among the Franklin College of Arts & Sciences, the Office of Instruction, and University Housing. The purpose of the FRC is to infuse the intellectual excitement of the arts and sciences at UGA into the residential life of the program participants residing in Rutherford Hall. All participants must be a Franklin College of Arts & Sciences major or minor. The FRC works to accomplish this primarily through regular interactions, often in small group lectures and discussions taking place in Rutherford Hall, with University of Georgia faculty members from the Franklin College of Arts & Sciences. Various visitors to campus also connect with FRC students through scheduled sessions. Other regular activities include attending performing arts events on campus, cookie nights in the home of the Academic Advisor in Residence, study opportunities at Sapelo Island over the fall semester break, occasional dinners, and several social activities throughout the year, all accompanied by the Academic Advisor in Residence, Director, Director's Assistants, and often, a Franklin College faculty member. The FRC has experimented with different structures related to student governance coupled with Faculty and Staff mentoring. Our present approach includes an Academic Advisor in Residence, Director, and Director's Assistants who solicit nominations for FRC students to serve on the FRC Executive Board for the academic year. The current FRC Executive Board is comprised of three Director's Assistants and the following positions: Social Chair, Web Design Chair, Academic Chair, Service Chair, Public Relations Chair, and Sustainability Chair. The FRC Executive Board members were elected by fellow FRC members, and they meet at least once a month, along with the Academic Advisor in Residence and the Director of the FRC, to propose events and delegate tasks among the group. The entire FRC meets at least twice per year as a large group to discuss issues pertinent to the FRC community.
